Come and discover Cornamusam, an international traditional music festival dedicated to bagpipes from around the world!
Since it was launched in 1992 by the popular culture entity El Til·ler, Cornamusam has been the gathering point for the most outstanding bagpipe players in Catalonia, as well as for leading groups of the contemporary folk music scene such as Riu, Els Groullers, BOC, La Puça Diatònica, La Coixinera and la Cobla la Mitja Lluna, international solo artists such as Carlos Núñez, Bieito Romero (Luar na Lubre) and Liam O'Flyn, and groups such as Rura and Kila.
In addition to live music, the festival also offers talks and master classes revolving around bagpipes and the world of traditional music. It aims to be a space for fostering new proposals, as well as a space where bagpipes can be introduced to and experiment with styles and projects that go beyond pure traditional music.
Cornamusam also aims to act as a catalyst for public participation, for the coming together of musicians from across the territory and for breaking down barriers between audience and performer. The event also seeks to promote awareness of local produce, crafts and sustainability.
On one the most iconic elements of the festival is la Cabreta, a bagpipe-playing giant in the shape of a goat that was created in 1996 by local artists Àngel Rigall and Tavi Algueró. The festival’s opening act that takes place from the Balcó dels Espants at Sant Esteve Church is another of its most notable events.
Traditional music and popular culture will be waiting for you at the Cornamusam in the next month of May.
The MOT is a literary festival that takes place each year between April and May which is organised by two city councils: those of Olot and Girona.
The festival takes place in Spring, and over the past six years it has brought all manner of dance proposals to Olot’s Teatre Principal as well as its streets, parks and squares, in tandem with simultaneous activities to bring dance closer to the public.
