Olot’s Sismògraf dance festival is a unique event launched in 2009, with the goal of bringing all of Olot’s dance proposals together as a cultural season. This objective was made a reality thanks to a local presence of professional and amateur dancers, as well the general public’s positive response to dance.
The festival takes place in Spring, and over the past six years it has brought all manner of dance proposals to Olot’s Teatre Principal as well as its streets, parks and squares, in tandem with simultaneous activities to bring dance closer to the public. Since 2015, Sismògraf has been designated by the Catalan Government as one of the territory’s “strategic performing arts festivals”, on a par with other events such as El Trapezi circus festival in Reus, Tàrrega’s Fira de Teatre al Carrer and Igualada’s La Mostra.
Through Sismògraf, Olot aims to become the dance epicentre of Catalonia by offering both a trade fair and dance festival in one. The festival also seeks to act as a point of convergence for professionals and creators, with the goal of promoting the presence of dance on cultural agendas, and offering the public an opportunity to enjoy events of all formats and types.
Sismògraf is more than a dance festival, it is a socially responsible and conscious event that places strong value on all social and environmental considerations: from the equipment and setup right down to the creative programme itself. Likewise, the festival also shares a strong bond with the local territory, viewing the landscape as a physical, mental and emotional environment which bears testament to events: the creative programme aims to give voice to the social, environmental and relational challenges faced by society today.
Do not miss out on Olot’s Sismògraf dance festival - a unique opportunity to experience dance in all its manifestations and with a strong commitment to society and the environment.
The MOT is a literary festival that takes place each year in the month of April and which is organised by two city councils: those of Olot and Girona.
