Come to discover the Nativity Scene Fair in Olot! This annual event takes place over the weekend closest to the extended bank holiday of 6-8 December, in Olot city centre.
At the fair, you will find quality products for the creation of nativity scenes, as well as stalls boasting crafts, foodstuffs and Christmas decorations. There is also a craft market featuring natural, handcrafted products. The fair is spread over various squares within the city, such as the Plaça Esteve Ferrer, Plaça Major and Plaça Pia Almoina, as well as across several streets.
During this period, Olot City Council organises special activities for children, such as games and craft workshops. There are also some small-scale Christmas concerts, offering pop, rock ,jazz and a capella performances. If you prefer traditional carols, then you can’t miss out on El Firal Petit, in which hundreds of school children from the area sing Christmas songs.
You also mustn’t miss out on the parade of the Tío giant - a magical character created by the sculptor Modest Fluvià, which is one of the best-loved icons of the city.
Olot’s Nativity Scene Fair boasts a long history dating back to 1877, when local families opened their homes to show off their nativity scenes. Since then, the tradition grew until eventually becoming crystallised as the International Nativity Scene Exhibition in 1992.
So, if you want to enjoy the most authentic and festive Christmas possible, then don’t miss out on the Nativity Scene Fair in Olot!
