The construction project of the Eixample Malagrida (1916-1925) can be considered the most important urban planning work carried out in Olot. It followed the model of the nineteenth-century garden cities, with an abundance of green areas in the middle of which houses were built. Of particular note are the Casa Masramon (Rafael Masó) and the Malagrida Tower, which is now home of the youth hostel.
The project consisted of some radial streets that left the squares of Spain and America and with the bridge of Columbus that linked them surpassing the river Fluvià.
