The Olot faràndula
The most popular part of Olot’s festivities of El Tura (held around 8 September) are undoubtedly the giant imaginary figures – the Gegants or Giants (with a Giant and Giantess), Cap de Lligamosques, Cavallets and Cabeçuts – that are paraded around the town as part of the faràndula. Without them, the street parties of the City’s festivities would not be the same!
The parades and dances in the Plaça Major are an object of local pride. Children stare wide-eyed at the giants as they pass, while first-time visitors leave with a special admiration for this typical popular celebration, seen at its best in Olot.
PERFORMANCES BY THE OLOT FARÀNDULA
The Olot farándula performs four times a year, once for Corpus Christi and three times during the festivities of El Tura.
